چکیده

The 3ω method is popular for thermal conductivity measurements. It consists of a strip heater above a substrate, and the results are usually based on approximate solutions of the heat conduction equation for simplified heating in which the heater is assumed to be a thin plate. Through numerical studies, it is found that a finite heater thickness has an effect on the value of the thermal conductivity that is obtained from experiments. The effect of a fluid above the heater is also investigated.

Analysis of 3ω method for thermal conductivity measurement

The 3ω method for measurement of thermal conductivity of a solid usually consists of a strip heater above a substrate, and the method is based on an approximate solution of the heat conduction problem in which the heater thickness is neglected. We establish a two-dimensional heat conduction model for the heater-on-substrate 3ω method which takes into account the finite thickness of the heater. ...

Measurement of Thin Film Isotropic and Anisotropic Thermal Conductivity Using 3ω and Thermoreflectance Imaging

The 3ω method is a well established technique for experimentally extracting thermal conductivity of thin films and substrates. The 3ω method calculates thermal conductivity by measuring thin film temperature response to a metal strip heater deposited on the material’s surface. The electrical resistance of the metal strip is used as both heat source and temperature sensor. An important factor in...

Improved 3-omega measurement of thermal conductivity in liquid, gases, and powders using a metal-coated optical fiber.

A novel 3ω thermal conductivity measurement technique called metal-coated 3ω is introduced for use with liquids, gases, powders, and aerogels. This technique employs a micron-scale metal-coated glass fiber as a heater/thermometer that is suspended within the sample. Metal-coated 3ω exceeds alternate 3ω based fluid sensing techniques in a number of key metrics enabling rapid measurements of smal...

Measuring the Thermal Conductivity of Thin Films: 3 Omega and Related Electrothermal Methods

This review describes the major electrothermal methods for measuring the thermal conductivity of thin films in both cross-plane and in-plane directions. These methods use microfabricated metal lines for joule heating and resistance thermometry. The 3ω method for crossplane measurements is described thoroughly, along with a related DC method. For in-plane measurements, several methods are presen...

THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY OF InAs/AlSb SUPERLATTICES

In this work, we present experimental studies on the cross-plane thermal conductivity of InAs/AlSb superlattices. The thermal conductivities of MBE grown InAs/AlSb superlattices are measured using the 3ω method from 80-300 K. The influence of the growth temperature and post annealing is investigated. Significant reductions in thermal conductivity are observed in these superlattices compared to ...
